두 사람 사이를 오가는 동사들 — 전치사 to/for로 갈린다

수여동사 두 패턴 동사가 to / for 를 결정한다 패턴 #1 — to me 이미 있는 걸 건넨다 it ─────────→ me give · send · show · hand pay · lend · bring · pass · owe Show me the money. = Show the money to me. 패턴 #2 — for me 없던 걸 만들어/사서 준다 (한 단계 더) → 만듦 ─────→ me buy · make · get Buy me a drink. = Buy a drink for me.
to me는 직접 건넴, for me는 만들어/사서 줌
  • •수여동사는 간접목적어(사람) + 직접목적어(사물) 2개를 받는다
  • •패턴 #1 (to me): give · lend · send · hand · bring · show · owe · pay · pass — 방향성 있는 동사들
  • •패턴 #2 (for me): buy · make · get — 만들어/사다 주는 동사들
  • •두 형태는 같은 의미: Show me the money = Show the money to me
  • •⚠️ 대명사 it은 간접목적어 자리에 못 옴: Give me it (X) → Give it to me (O)
  • •this/that은 가능: Give me this (O) (사이즈가 있어서)
  • •간접목적어가 길어지면 to+사람 형태로 옮겨야 함
  • •헷갈리는 짝꿍: give↔take (소유권 이전), lend↔borrow (일시적)
  • •자기 의지와 무관한 마음은 모두 be + 형용사 + of: afraid · sure · nervous · suspicious · fond · proud

📌 꼭 기억할 것

  • →salt 같은 식탁 위 물건은 give 안 쓰고 pass 씀: Pass me the salt (O)
  • →I owe you one = 다음엔 내가 낼게 / IOU = I Owe You 차용증
  • →look은 자동사라 전치사 필수: look down on (깔보다), look up to (우러러보다), look forward to N (부푸러대하다)

수여동사 개요

수여동사 = 목적어를 2개 받는 동사 (간접목적어 + 직접목적어)
두 가지 패턴:
• 패턴 #1 (to me): 방향성 있는 동사 — give, lend, send, hand, bring, show, owe, pay, pass
Show me the money. = Show the money to me.
• 패턴 #2 (for me): 만들어/사다 주는 동사 — buy, make, get
Buy me a drink. = Buy a drink for me.
• 예외: prepare는 "음식을 직접 조리하다" 의미 (이 그룹과 다름)
⚠️ 중요 규칙들:
• Give me it (X) → Give it to me (O)
이유: 대명사 it은 간접목적어 자리에 못 옴
• Give me this/that (O) — this/that은 사이즈가 있어서 OK
• 간접목적어가 길면 to+사람으로 옮김:
Give the poor children in Africa the money (X)
→ Give the money to the poor children in Africa (O)
헷갈리는 짝꿍:
• give ↔ take (주다 ↔ 받다, 소유권 이전)
• lend ↔ borrow (빌려주다 ↔ 빌리다, 일시적)

look (자동사 + 전치사)

look은 자동사. 전치사·부사와 함께 써야 함.
📍 부사 (방향·위치)
here / there / out / in / away / around / forward / back / up / down
📍 전치사구 (구체적 위치·대상)
• at me / to the right / to the west
• on the board / on the ground / on page 3
• around you / into my eyes
• in the fridge / in the mirror / in the bag
• out of the window / over the rainbow / under the carpet
📍 자주 쓰는 표현
• He looks down on me — 그는 날 깔본다
• I look up to him — 난 그를 우러러본다
• Look forward to + N(명사) / ~ing — 부푸러대하다
(to는 전치사이므로 명사·동명사가 옴)

busy vs in hurry (상황 구분)

busy: 일이 많아서 바쁨 (일의 양 문제)
• I'm busy. — 일이 바빠서 너랑 연락 못 해.
(길에서 갑자기 만난 상황: 지금 일이 많아서 통화하기 어려워)
in hurry: 시간이 촉박함 (시간 문제)
• I'm in a hurry. — 지금 시간이 촉박해서, 나중에 연락할게.
(시간 부족, 나중에 연락할게 라는 의미)

헷갈리는 짝꿍: give/take, lend/borrow

give / take
• give = 주다 (내가 → 상대)
• take = 받다, 가져가다 (상대 → 내가)
• Give me the money — 내게 돈 줘
• Take the money — 그 돈 가져가
lend / borrow (일시적, 다시 돌려받음)
• lend = 빌려주다 (내가 → 상대, 나중에 돌려받음)
• borrow = 빌리다 (상대 → 내가, 나중에 돌려줌)
• Lend me the money — 나한테 돈 빌려줘
• Can I borrow the money? — 내가 그 돈 빌릴 수 있을까?
추가 어휘:
• be afraid / sure / fond / proud / nervous — 자기 의지 부족해서 일어나는 감정의 f-
• We have a lot of fond memories — 애틋한 추억
• My mother always talked about me so fondly — 다정하게
• Let's chip in / Let's break the bill — 더치페이 (go Dutch는 X)
• IOU = I Owe You (차용증 표현)

walk (자·타동사 확장)

walk는 자동사. 전치사·부사와 같이 씀.
📍 부사 (방향·위치)
here / there / out / in / away / home / back
forward / backward / up / down / upstairs / downstairs
📍 전치사구 (구체적 행선지·경로)
• to school / to work / to church / to the park
• around the park / up the stairs / down the stairs
• to the 7th floor / in(to) the room / across the street
• out of the room / up the steep slope / down the easy slope
📍 the 유무 차이
개념적 장소엔 the 빠짐: walk to school / to work / to church
구체적 장소엔 the 들어감: walk to the park / to the 7th floor
📍 자주 쓰는 패턴
• walk + 사람·동물 (10% 타동사 용법):
walk the dog / walk me / walk you
• I'll walk you out — 바깥까지 데려다줄게
• I'll walk you in — 같이 들어갈게

GIVE

give 사람 사물 = give 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 주다

  1. Give me a call.

    나한테 전화 한 통 줘.

  2. Would you give me a hand?

    나 좀 도와줄래?

    ✏️ give a hand = 도움

  3. Give him a hand.

    걔 좀 도와줘. / 걔한테 박수 쳐 줘.

  4. Please, give me a break.

    좀 봐줘요.

  5. Give me a chance. (= Give a chance to me.)

    내게 기회를 줘요. (좀 봐줘요.)

  6. Give me another chance. / Give me one more chance.

    내게 한 번만 더 기회를 줘봐요.

  7. Give it to me.

    그거 나한테 줘.

    ✏️ Give me it (X) → Give it to me (O). 대명사 it은 간접목적어 자리에 못 옴

pass 사람 사물 = pass 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 집어주다

  1. Pass me the salt. (= Pass the salt to me.)

    그 소금 좀 (내게) 집어 줘.

    ✏️ 식탁에서 give 대신 pass 씀

  2. Pass me the water. (= Pass the water to me.)

    그 물 좀 집어 줘.

LEND

lend 사람 사물 = lend 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 빌려주다 (↔ borrow: 빌리다)

  1. Lend me some money. (= Lend some money to me.)

    나한테 돈 좀 빌려줘.

  2. Will you lend it to me?

    그거 나한테 좀 빌려줄래?

    ✏️ Lend me it (X) → Lend it to me (O)

  3. Will you lend me a hand?

    나 좀 도와줄래?

    ✏️ a hand = 일손

  4. Could you lend me a pen? (= Could you lend a pen to me?)

    나 펜 하나만 빌려줄래?

  5. Could you lend me your umbrella? (= Could you lend your umbrella to me?)

    네 우산 좀 빌려줄래?

SEND

send 사람 사물 = send 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 보내주다

  1. I sent you an e-mail. (= I sent an e-mail to you.)

    내가 너한테 메일 하나 보냈어.

  2. Did you send me a message? (= ... send a message to me?)

    너 나한테 메시지 보냈니?

  3. Send a letter to one of your friends.

    네 친구 중 한 명에게 편지를 보내봐.

  4. Send me a photo of you.

    나한테 네 사진 하나 보내줘.

  5. Could you send me a photocopy of the article?

    그 기사의 복사본 하나 내게 보내줄 수 있어?

    ✏️ photocopy = 복사본

HAND

hand 사람 사물 = hand 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 건네주다

  1. Hand me your phone. (= Hand your phone to me.)

    네 전화기 좀 건네줘 봐.

  2. Hand me that hammer. (= ... hand that hammer to me.)

    저 망치 좀 건네줘.

  3. Hand me that pair of scissors. (/ Hand me those scissors.)

    저 가위 좀 건네줘.

BRING

bring 사람 사물 = bring 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 가져오다

  1. Bring me some water. (= Bring some water to me.)

    내게 물 좀 가져와.

  2. Bring it (back) to me.

    그거 내게 (도로) 가져와.

    ✏️ Bring me it (X)

SHOW

show 사람 사물 = show 사물 to 사람

~에게 ~를 보여주다

  1. Show me the money. (= Show the money to me.)

    내게 그 돈을 보여줘.

  2. Show me your car. (= Show your car to me.)

    네 승용차 내게 보여줘 봐.

  3. Show me your resume. (= Show your resume to me.)

    네 이력서 내게 보여줘 봐.

  4. Show it to me.

~에게 ~를 줄 것이 있다 (빚지다, 신세지다)

  1. I owe you 10 dollars. (= I owe 10 dollars to you.)

    내가 너한테 10불 줄 거 있어.

  2. I owe you one.

    내가 너한테 한 번 빚졌다. (다음엔 내가 낼게.)

  3. I owe you a lot. (= I owe a lot to you.)

    내가 네게 신세 진 것이 많다.

  4. Jinx! You owe me a Coke!

    찌찌뽕! 너 나한테 콜라 사!

    ✏️ jinx = 찌찌뽕

  5. I owe it to you.

    그거, 네 덕분이야.

~에게 ~를 지불하다

  1. Pay me the money. (= Pay the money to me.)

  2. Pay me back the money. (= Pay the money back to me.)

    나한테 돈 갚아.

  3. Would you pay me the fee? (= ... pay the fee to me?)

    저한테 요금 내주시겠어요?

  4. She paid me a visit when I was in the hospital.

    그 여자가 나 입원 중일 때 문병 왔어.

    ✏️ pay a visit = 방문하다

  5. Will you pay attention to me?

    나한테 주목해줄래?

BUY

buy 사람 사물 = buy 사물 for 사람

~에게 ~를 사주다 (for me 패턴)

  1. Buy me lunch. (= Buy lunch for me.)

    나한테 점심 사.

  2. Buy me a drink. (= Buy a drink for me.)

    나한테 술 한잔 사.

  3. Can I buy you a cup of coffee? (= Can I buy a cup of coffee for you?)

    제가 당신께 커피 한잔 사도 될까요?

  4. I bought this for you.

    이거 너 주려고 샀어.

  5. Did you buy it for me?

    그거 나 주려고 샀어?

  6. I don't buy it.

MAKE

make 사람 사물 = make 사물 for 사람

~에게 ~를 만들어주다

  1. I'll make you dinner. (= I'll make dinner for you.)

    내가 너 저녁 차려줄게.

  2. Make me some coffee. (= Make some coffee for me.)

    나 커피 좀 타줘.

  3. Make me a somaek. (= Make a somaek for me.)

    나 소맥 하나 만들어줘.

  4. My father used to make me kimchi fried rice. (= ... make kimchi fried rice for me.)

    우리 아빤 나한테 김치볶음밥을 만들어주시곤 했어.

  5. Could you make me a sandwich? (= Could you make a sandwich for me?)

    나 샌드위치 하나 만들어줄래?

GET (사다주다)

get 사람 사물 = get 사물 for 사람

~에게 ~를 가져다주다 / 사다주다

✏️ Day 3의 GET (상태 만들기)과는 다른 용법
이 GET은 Day 3에서 배운 "상태로 만들기" GET과는 다름.
여기서는 "~에게 ~를 사다주다/가져다주다" 의미의 수여동사.

  1. Could you get me a blanket? (= Could you get a blanket for me?)

    나 담요 하나 갖다 줄래요?

  2. Could you get me a bowl of rice? (= Could you get a bowl of rice for me?)

    나 밥 한 공기 갖다 줄래요?

  3. I can't reach it. - I'll get it for you.

    나 저거 팔이 안 닿아. - 내가 꺼내줄게.

    ✏️ I'll get you it (X)

  4. Get me Susan (on the phone).

    (내게) Susan 바꿔줘 봐.

  5. We're out of cooking oil. - I'll get you some.

    식용유가 떨어졌어요. - 내가 좀 사다 줄게.

  6. Can anyone get some medicine for me?

    누구, 나 약 좀 사다 줄 수 있어?

자기 의지와 무관한 마음 + of

be + 형용사 + of + N

자기 의지와 무관하게 일어나는 마음·감정 (전치사 of로 통일)

이런 형용사 뒤엔 of가 옴 (예외 X):
afraid · sure · nervous · suspicious · fond · proud
공통점: 자기가 일부러 만들어낼 수 없는 감정 — 저절로 일어나는 마음
비교: be afraid of (무서워하다) vs scare (놀라게 하다, 능동)

  1. I am afraid of dogs.

    난 개가 무서워.

  2. I am sure of winning.

    난 이길 자신이 있어.

  3. I am nervous of the interview.

    그 면접이 긴장돼.

  4. I am suspicious of him.

    난 그가 의심스러워.

  5. I am fond of her.

    난 그녀가 좋아.
